According to Bloomberg, Apple has decided on the name of the operating system that will run the company’s Mixed Reality headset.
“According to Mark Gurman of Bloomberg, the company has recently changed the name of the operating system from realityOS to xrOS. This change was made according to people who asked not to be named because the project has not yet been announced”.
Gurman said the first letters for the operating system xrOS stood for extended reality. It is in line with Apple’s longer-term view of what the platform could become. An expensive reality mixed headset is expected from Apple.
Apple products for mixed reality
Future Apple mixed reality products are expected to include augmented reality glasses and contact lenses when the technology reaches the next level.
Gurman mentions that engineers from Pages, Keynote, Numbers, Notes and Apple News are involved in the project. This implies that Apple is bringing in key app development teams to ensure the headset is as successful as possible.
Apple is expected to announce the mixed reality headset as early as spring of 2023.
