Despite the leaked photos suggesting that dramatic changes, like a much bigger sensor or an edge-to-edge screen, are unlikely on the Hero 11 Black, action cam fans who were eager for a big reason to wait for the new flagship might be disappointed. Based on GoPro tradition, the new flagship is anticipated to be released in September.
It looks like the first leaked images of the GoPro Hero 11 Black have surfaced—and they suggest that action cam manufacturers may not be making large evolutionary leaps in design, at least not right away.
GoPro Hero 11 Black Images Review
While it’s tempting to assume that the Hero 11 Black images are merely mockups based on the Hero 10 Black, WinFuture’s prior GoPro leaks seem to indicate that this cam will indeed look like this in the future.
While we are happy about that, it is nothing out of the ordinary. The only noticeable difference between the Hero 11 Black and its predecessor is the logo. The latter features a 1.4-inch front LCD for vloggers, a 2.27-inch rear touchscreen with improved responsiveness than the Hero 9 Black, and the usual waterproofing down to 10 meters.
GoPro Hero 10 vs GoPro Hero 11
It’s reasonable to state that nearly all of the Hero 10 Black’s enhancements were also under the hood—the important one was a new GP2 processor, which enabled new shooting modes like 5K/60p video and 4K/120p slow-mo footage—although there was also a more durable lens cover with a water-repellant coating, which was beneficial for water-sports enthusiasts.

Have you reached your personal best?
Based on these photographs, we can only reach limited conclusions about Hero 11 Black. It is unlikely, based on WinFuture’s history, that these are fake. We also do not know what internal or software changes the Hero 11 Black will have.
What is clear, however, is that GoPro and action cams in general have reached a peak stage of evolution when it comes to design. The Hero 9 Black was the last big physical change for GoPros, which was in response to the original DJI Osmo Action 3.
GoPro’s
Even though the Hero 9 Black was GoPro’s biggest redesign since the Hero 5 Black in 2016, physical improvements of any kind have been increasingly difficult to find.
Indeed, we’re not upset at smartphone manufacturers for delivering small improvements to notches or bezels. In addition to modifying the winning formula with its Hero Black line, GoPro has also provided more significant changes to its 360-degree camera, the GoPro Max.
It’s a shame that the Hero 11 Black doesn’t include a 1/4-inch threaded mounting point, an edge-to-edge rear display, or even a secondary lens with a unique focal length, similar to smartphones. However, the more reasonable issue is that GoPro hasn’t updated its GoPro Max in almost three years.
It is safe to walk on the ground here.
The Insta360 One R 1-Inch Edition has also been an innovator that has bothered GoPro, providing another modular system with a large 1-inch sensor. We have also enjoyed the tiny Insta360 Go 2, which includes a clever charging case for the remote control, as well as 360-degree products like the Insta360 One X2.

GP2 – A New Sensor?
It seems unlikely that a new sensor will be added to the GoPro lineup based on previous historical records, but we hope that the current 23MP 1/2.3-inch sensor can be used in conjunction with the GP2 processor to create HDR video as well as a 480fps 1080p slow-mo mode. We might get some answers soon, according to these leaks.
