LG Display today unveiled the world’s first 12-inch high-definition flexible display. The new technology means the screen can be stretched, bent and rotated without damage.
Full-color RGB display
It is the industry’s first 20% stretchable full-color RGB display. The density is 100 pixels per inch, which the manufacturer claims increases not only flexibility, but also high durability and reliability, increasing commercial potential.
Based on a highly elastic film layer made of a special silicone used in contact lenses, the 12-inch screen has the flexibility of a rubber band, allowing it to be stretched up to 14 inches.
MicroLED is a light source
The screen uses a MicroLED light source with a pixel pitch of less than 40 micrometers, which ensures high durability and allows it to withstand significant external influences. The screen can withstand more than 10,000 continuous deformations. The manufacturer does not say this, but if you bend it in different ways, it can be assumed that the resource will be very long.
According to LG Display, it easily adheres to various curved surfaces such as skin, clothes, furniture and cars.
Su-Yong Yoon, executive vice president and chief technical officer of LG Display, said, “We will successfully complete this project to increase the competitiveness of Korean display technology.“
