Key Highlights:
- Snowtrace’s Etherscan chapter concludes; new horizons await! 🌅
- Etherscan’s hefty fees: A possible reason for the shift? 💰
- AVAX community resilient and hopeful for the future. 🌟
AVAX blockchain, a leading name in the cryptosphere, is witnessing some significant changes. One of the most sought-after blockchain explorer tools for Avalanche, Snowtrace.io, has announced that it will discontinue its website powered by Etherscan’s Explorer-as-a-Service (EaaS) toolkit come the end of November.
🚀 What’s the Rationale Behind the Move?
While the Snowtrace team has been clear about the halt of its Etherscan-powered explorer, the reasons remain somewhat shrouded in mystery. Users are now in a race against time to back up essentials like private name tags and contact verification specifics before the curtain drops on November 30.
Speculations abound, with many fingers pointing at Etherscan’s hefty EaaS service fees. Mikko Ohtama, the brains behind tradingprotocol, shed some light on the matter, highlighting that an EaaS yearly subscription might set you back a cool $1-$2 million. Ohtama quipped:
EtherScan is a very good product, but smart contract verification is something that needs to be decentralised.

Regulators and other are not going to be kosher with "how do you check this" "the source code is hosted by a private company in Malaysia"

Phillip Liu Jr., the strategic maestro at Ava Labs, echoed similar sentiments. Hinting at newer horizons, Liu stated the protocol is on the verge of “upgrading to greener pastures” and there’s no stopping in sight. Etherscan’s EaaS isn’t just about the block explorer; it’s an entire package, offering an application programming interface (API) solution. But, like all good things, it might come to an end, be it due to an expired EaaS agreement, bandwidth constraints, or merely dwindling traffic. In such sticky situations, the mantra is simple: back up everything from transaction notes to contract verification deets.
Yup. Moving onto something better.
