The AMD Radeon RX 7900 is technically ready for the addition of 3D V-Cache memory, but it’s unclear if such versions will be released.
Existing RX 7900 Cards
AMD has already released two generations of processors with 3D V-Cache technology and may soon release similar video cards.
It has been discovered that the already selling 3D Radeon RX 7900 cards are technically ready to use additional 3D V-Cache memory cache.
This was revealed through the disassembly of the lower-end RX 7900 XT model, which is lacking two memory chips, but the contact pads for these chips are present on the motherboard, which is used as the basis for creating the RX 7900 XTX.
Potential for a New Model
Semiconductor packaging engineer Tom Wassick discovered that these memory chip places contain a linear array of “dots” that resemble corresponding elements in the Ryzen X3D processors and have the same 17-18 μm step. This doesn’t necessarily mean that AMD will actually release the hypothetical Radeon RX 7900X3D XTX or whatever it may be called, but there are chances. Various tests show that such cards can really compete with GeForce RTX 4090.
