Scaringe has previously stated the company’s ambition to move into micromobility and, due to lower regulatory hurdles, Rivian’s electric bicycles could enter the market sooner than its larger electric vehicles. The company will join other automobile brands like Porsche in the expanding electric bicycle market.
However, this news comes the same week that Rivian laid off 6% of its workforce for the second time in less than a year. The layoffs represent a major restructuring effort, as the company now plans to refocus on scaling production of its R1T and R1S EVs.
