Tesla’s Backlog of Orders for Electric Vehicles
Tesla recently shared that its Austin, Texas plant is now producing 3,000 Model Y units per week. This increase in production capacity at the Texas and California Gigafactories, as well as enhancements at the California and Shanghai Gigafactories, has caused a reduction in the backlog of orders.
Analysts such as Troy Teslike have observed that Tesla’s worldwide queue of orders for electric vehicles has been steadily declining in recent months, with the figure as of November 30, 2022, amounting to 190,000 units. This is reportedly comparable to a production capacity of 44 days.
Tesla Releases Third Quarter Vehicle Production and Delivery Data for 2022
Tesla released its latest vehicle production and delivery statistics for the third quarter of 2022 in October. Compared to the same period last year, the company produced 366,000 vehicles, and delivered 344,000, an increase of over 100,000 vehicles, but still below analyst expectations.
In the third quarter, Tesla produced 365,923 new vehicles, with 345,988 being Model 3 and Model Y vehicles, and 199,35 being Model S and Model X vehicles. Tesla delivered 343,830 new vehicles, including 325,158 Model 3 and Model Y, and 18,672 Model S and Model X.
While Tesla’s production and delivery performance was impacted by the global semiconductor shortage and logistics challenges in the third quarter, it is currently improving those metrics. The rapid Model Y production growth at the Berlin and Texas Gigafactories is positive news for Tesla.
