Phil Spenser, head of gaming at Microsoft, tested the Meta meta-universe and shared his impressions. It was a poor video game at the WSJ Tech Live conference.
“Video game creators have an incredible ability to create compelling worlds that we want to spend time in. For me, creating a metaworld that looks like a conference room is the most difficult part. I’ve realized that I don’t want to spend most of my time there”.
He’s not the only one. Evan Spiegel, CEO of Snap, told WSJ Tech Live, “The last thing I want to do when I come home from work at the end of a long day is live inside a computer.””
Apple senior vice president of global marketing said he wouldn’t use the word “meta-universe.” He was supported by Disney CEO Robert “Bob” Chapek, who clarified that the company prefers to use a different concept because for them, it’s a broader term. For us, it’s about creating the next generation of storytelling.
Horizon Worlds
Meta has not yet demonstrated something that could interest users and leaders of the entertainment industry. Even Meta employees are almost forced to use Horizon Worlds.
Spencer, however, is not prepared to give up on the idea of a meta-universe. He believes that it is not the right time for it yet. Microsoft may attempt to create its own version in the future, as the company has plans to bring Teams, Windows, and Xbox into virtual reality (VR)
